preparations

i am doing a lot of printing to get ready for a local craft show. i will be closing my shops on both etsy and big cartel until january 1st when i am planning to add new designs.

hello december

december came quickly. i am participating in a craft show here in town next weekend so i am spending any free moment for the next week printing and packaging.

bigger & better

since we live in a tiny old house i don't have the space for a floor press, so i have been looking for a c&p pilot for a while. i found one in washington and luckily we have friends in washington. rob and i had a little weekend adventure seeing friends and driving this press home. it took us a little time to get it set up in the office, but she is ready to go now!

my husband and i are going on a little business trip this week... i should come back with an "new" addition to my little business!

a day off

i had a day off of my part time job so i committed the morning to printing a few new cards. i haven't printed this design in about a year.

her name is Lucca and she demands quite a bit of attention which we are happy to give.

i am slowly adding new items to my bigcartel shop as well as my etsy shop.

sore back

these invitations will soon be on their way in the mail. my back is sore from the many runs through the little press. hopefully sometime i will be able to get a little bit larger press so i can so more of this type of work. for now i think it will have to remain more of a hobby.

the girls in my family spent a long weekend exploring seattle and eating great food!

road trip

we had quite the diversity in weather over the last two weeks. we had one sunny day out of seven before we headed to idaho and wyoming hoping for a little warmth. we loved portland and hood river and had a great time with family. the hot springs in idaho were wonderful and we had some great views in wyoming. all in all a great trip.

moving forward

i am done with my "normal" job and rob and i are taking off for a road trip to oregon on monday. my shop will be on hiatus until our summer travels are over. i will have new things in the shop and a website update on sept 1st. until then i will be posting a few updates through the summer. i am looking forward to having some time between travels to do some printing and new designs.

what i have been doing with my free time lately...

changes

it's official... my last day at my "real" job is may 29th. it just so happens that my company is moving my position to a different location at a time when i am ready for a change. i am looking forward to getting out of the corporate environment and working on more creative opportunities. i am still looking at how i want to grow red tandem studio. i haven't had much time to devote to finding my niche and developing a unique style, but that will be my goal for the fall. i am looking forward to a summer of climbing mountains and traveling before looking for a part time job in the fall. i would like to find a few learning opportunities in the fall. i have pretty much taught myself letterpress since there are very few resources here in colorado and would like to refine my skill. sometimes i miss school when i had the time and encouragement to pursue more creative ventures. i hope to reclaim that environment for myself this summer.

i am in the process of setting up a new shop and updating my website. to purchase from the new shop you won't need a paypal or etsy account. hopefully i will get everything done in a few weeks before our summer travels!

my workspace went from clean to messy in a matter of seconds after my inlaws left sunday afternoon. this will be my free time for the next few days...

fresh pages

i used to journal everyday, but have gotten out of the habit since i have been married. i am making a new journal for our summer of travels. maybe having fun new pages will inspire me to fill them.

new aprons

i picked up a few aprons at ikea when we were in california. now i am up to 3, but i can't decide which to use for printing and which for cooking. i hate to get any of them dirty, but that's what they are for!

inspiration

i love that we have an actual mailbox right outside our house with a little red flag to put up. i love it even more when there are fun things waiting for me inside!

next time i fly

i was having a little crayon-envy on our 14+ hour across the pacific. the girl down the row had a new box of 64 crayons. all those colors could have kept me entertained for a while.

travel + changes

the sun and warmth were wonderful. i could have stayed so much longer in australia enjoying the weather and beach and my family. it was a great break from the 9 to 5 that i didn't realized i needed so badly. the re-entry was a little rough. besides leaving my ipod on the airplane, i came home to a few issues and struggles at the job... where did we start valuing money so much over ethics and quality? what happened to being a part of an organization that had a higher purpose? what good are we really doing for the community? how did the priorities of a once family owned company become so skewed?  looks like i may have a little more motivation to journey into the world of self-employment.

vacation! we are off for a week to australia and california for some warm weather.

warmth

a little bit of yellow to go with the wonderful amount of sun we have been having lately. these cards will be in my etsy shop on april 1st.

walking

mmm... walking to work is a good way to relieve a little stress. nothing seems so important when you have a mile and half in front of you and it can only be taken one step at a time.

lots of little bicycles

while my husband worked on replacing the bathroom sink, i printed. lots of little red tandem bikes coming to my etsy shop soon. i'm itching to start riding my bike to work again... i may just have to bundle up and brave the wind.

my power cord for my laptop has broken in two. i'm not sure how that happens, but it makes my design work a little hard to do. here's hoping for fast shipping on the new one coming!

seems to be the color of choice lately. maybe i am secretly (or not so secretly!) wishing for spring. i'm working on a few mock ups for a summer wedding, the final should be along in a few weeks...

 i am getting over a cold right now, but i managed to do a little printing while i had some energy. registration is the hardest thing for me with letterpress. it would have been nice to have taken a class or two before jumping into this, but i wasn't able to find any in the area. i'm usually the person who does things without reading the instructions anyway, so maybe i work better this way...

well, the day has gotten away from me and the printing i was hoping to finish will have to be done another day. sometimes family and friends are more important.
